Larger Oilm Filter For 2az-fe Toyota Motor?

Well, I forgot that I still had 1 Toyota oil filter left so when I got my oil (Amsoil) I bought a Mobil ane filter to endeavour it (M1-103). Well, the Mobil filter is well-nigh 1/two shorter than the Toyota one but the same diameter (nevertheless less overall filtering surface area). The concern I have is that later this oil change, I've noticed that the temperature of the engine has slightly decreased. It HAS been actually common cold the past few days just the solar day that I change information technology, it was 55 and the engine temp still dropped a bit. I'd say that information technology dropped maybe a few degrees, but cipher much.

I just talked to the Shop Forman for the Porsche techs and he said at that place isn't a direct correlation betwixt those 2 things. Maybe the new oil is "slicker" and creating less friction which is helping the cooling of the engine, but he said it wouldn't be anything that I'd notice on a judge. I notwithstanding have plenty of heat and haven't noticed any coolant leak from the water pump or the thermostat so I'm a bit puzzled.

Whatsoever thoughts?

I merely switched to amsoil w/ an amsoil filter over the weekend, and I didn't detect a alter in the engine temperature. And so once again I wasn't really looking for information technology. The amsoil filter is definitely smaller then the toyota one. I'll take a wait at my guess tomorrow, cuz I didn't accept the tC out today on business relationship of the possibilty for winter weather condition.

I've switched from OEM Filters to K&N and currently I'm using a less expensive filter, STP.

I couldn't sense any difference in engine bay temps, in that location's merely too many variables involved.

The type of oil used may be the biggest factor

The Mobil M1-103 is for the 2az-iron Camry (checked the volume) but the filter that our tC comes with is taller than the stock Camry filter. Not really sure why simply I know taller/larger filters accept more surface area for filtering, which ways cleaner oil. I am going to modify back to the Toyota filter next alter though.

I wanted to attempt the Amsoil nanofiber filters (EaO) but they were xx$ each so I passed this time. I change my oil every 5000 miles with the Toyota filters and plan to stick to that, since it'southward been like that for 60k

That'due south true. I may have just never really paid much attention in the past and for some reason, the 60K mark is making me go along a closer eye on things.

I'one thousand glad y'all guys are using Amsoil. I accept a product sponsorship with them for my race car and information technology's the best stuff e'er. And as far as the different filter size...I wonder if the larger filter could almost act as a estrus exchanger and misemploy a lit bit of heat due to the longer corporeality of time in the filter?

Oil filter size should have no effect except to the pressure the oil filter sees. Temperature wise for the engine bay no correlation.

When I was a mechanic I was taught never to employ a smaller filter. Starting out your the lube tech and for most manufacturers apply the same size and thread oil filter plumbing equipment. So you tin can accept smaller or larger filters used on different car models of the manufacturer and they volition fit only the pressure deviation volition cause problems like the oil filter exploding.

Heat transfer from an oil filter is so minor in comparison to how much heat an internal combustion engine produces it is absolutely negligible.

I switched to Mobile 1 at my 30k oil alter with a K&N filter. I didn't notice any modify in engine temp but I wasn't looking for information technology. I'm coming upward to 35k soon and then I'll be certain to make annotation of any changes then. I scored a few Toyota filters for 25% off so when I change my oil this fourth dimension, I'll see if anything changes.
